This was an absurdly large space, at least a thousand yards wide, with bluish-gray walls stretching up to an unseen distance, and below was a mass of pure black viscous substance.

Rode and his group of five were in a tunnel midway up the wall, overwhelmed by a strong sense of pollution. As soon as Lester poked his head out of the tunnel, his expression changed.
