Chapter 21 – Four Peaks

"Follow me into the sect," Steward Shen He instructed.

After speaking, Shen He silently recited an incantation, and the ship swiftly glided towards the distant Immortal Mountain. In no time, it vanished into the white mist of the mountain, disappearing from sight.

At the Dao Heaven Sect Main Gate.

Zhao Ting shook Chen Xun awake from his slumber, and everyone disembarked from the ship.

"Greetings, Steward Shen!"

The two disciples guarding the gate immediately stepped forward, bowing and calling out.

"Mm," Shen He nodded, suppressing the excitement in his heart. He took a deep breath, grabbed Zhao Ting, and instructed, "I will take Zhao Ting to the Inner Pavilion. Xu Yang, you take them to the Servants' Peak for registration!"

"Yes!" One of the six disciples bowed in acknowledgment.

Zhao Ting hadn't expected Steward Shen to be in such a hurry, so he quickly called out as he walked away, "Brother Chen, I'll come see you once I'm done!"

With that, he quickly disappeared with Shen He.

The two gatekeeping disciples were already stunned. As they regained their senses, they looked at Xu Yang and the others with eyes full of curiosity.

What was going on? Who was that person taken away by Steward Shen?

Did they hear correctly?

To the Inner Pavilion?

The six disciples exchanged smiles, and Xu Yang said, "The one taken to the Inner Pavilion by Steward Shen is Brother Zhao Ting. Brother Zhao was just recruited from the mundane world."

Upon hearing this, the pupils of the two gatekeeping disciples contracted.

Just recruited?

And already called Brother Zhao?

Xu Yang sighed, "Don't look at us like that. Brother Zhao... has the Heavenly Gold Spirit Root."

"You five, follow me to the Servants' Peak for registration!" Xu Yang said, leading Chen Xun and the other four towards the Servants' Peak.

The other five disciples entered the mountain gate and left as well.

The two remaining gatekeeping disciples stood in shock.

Heavenly Spirit Root!

.........

"See that peak ahead? That's the Servants' Peak," Xu Yang pointed to a mountain in the distance as they walked along the mountain path.

"Wow," Yu Zheng and the others exclaimed. Would they be spending their time on that Servants' Peak?

Although the Servants' Peak was much shorter than the other peaks they had seen, it was the largest overall. To them, it seemed filled with spiritual energy, like a paradise.

Chen Xun was quiet, holding a blank book in his hands, his eyes fervently scanning its pages as he walked.

"Brother Xu, what about those other peaks we saw earlier?" Yu Zheng asked curiously.

Xu Yang smirked and said, "Those peaks are off-limits to you servant disciples unless specifically assigned. Generally, you're not allowed to set foot there."

Turning, Xu Yang pointed to a peak and said proudly, "That's the Human Profound Peak, the Outer Sect. I reside there."

"Wow, Brother Xu, you're amazing!" Yu Zheng and the others exclaimed in admiration.

Xu Yang laughed heartily and pointed to the peak behind Human Profound Peak, his eyes filled with longing. "That's the Earth Profound Peak, the Inner Sect. The disciples and elders there are the backbone of our Dao Heaven Sect. In times of conflict, they are the sect's main force."

Before Yu Zheng and the others could ask more, Xu Yang pointed to the peak further back, his expression turning respectful as he spoke solemnly:

"That's the Heaven Profound Peak, where the True Disciples reside. True Disciples, also known as Purple-Robed Disciples, are all exceptionally talented, standing out in the Dao Heaven Sect and even in the entire Northern Profound Cultivation World!"

Xu Yang smiled, "Brother Zhao Ting, who came with you, will be residing on the Heaven Profound Peak."

Yu Zheng and the others widened their eyes, still somewhat confused.

Seeing this, Xu Yang explained, "In our Dao Heaven Sect, excluding the Sect Master, elders, guardians, and stewards, there are about thirteen thousand disciples. Over ten thousand are servant disciples, more than three thousand are outer sect disciples, over five hundred are inner sect disciples, and... including Brother Zhao, there are only fifteen Purple-Robed Disciples."

What?

Yu Zheng and the others finally understood the prestige of being a Purple-Robed Disciple. Their breathing quickened, and their bodies trembled slightly.

They had already stood out from the many spirit root tests in Celestial Clarity City, considering themselves geniuses, full of pride on their journey here.

But upon arriving at Dao Heaven Sect, reality gave them a harsh slap.

Among the ten thousand servant disciples in Dao Heaven Sect, they were just one in a million!

Beyond that, there were outer sect disciples, inner sect disciples, and Purple-Robed Disciples!

If they considered themselves geniuses, then what did that make Brother Zhao Ting, who became a Purple-Robed Disciple?

No wonder there's a saying that genius is just the threshold. Now, Yu Zheng and the others felt they weren't even qualified to glimpse Zhao Ting.

Even Brother Xu Yang, an outer sect disciple, deserved their utmost respect...

The casual conversations on the way here now seemed like a dream.

At this moment, they finally understood the gap, the difference between heaven and earth.

"Heh," Xu Yang chuckled at the change in their expressions. "Alright, I've given you a brief introduction to these peaks. As for the other peaks and things to note, you'll gradually learn. Now, follow me up the Servants' Peak."

"Yes," Yu Zheng and the others quickly bowed, their attitudes completely changed.

Xu Yang nodded in satisfaction, thinking to himself that they were teachable. The first thing upon entering Dao Heaven Sect was to recognize oneself, only then could one endure.

Xu Yang glanced again at Chen Xun, who lagged behind, pursing his lips without saying more.

After all, he was just a madman, often lost in his own world. Besides, he didn't need to know much, as he was only here to get by thanks to Brother Zhao Ting, not a true disciple of Dao Heaven Sect.

.........

Though the Servants' Peak was the lowest of the Dao Heaven Sect's mountains, it was the largest.

After all, it had to accommodate over ten thousand servant disciples.

As Xu Yang led Chen Xun and the others up the mountain, they frequently encountered passing servant disciples, who would cast curious glances their way.

Everyone knew the sect was recruiting disciples recently, and dozens of new servant disciples had arrived in the past few days.

However, upon seeing Xu Yang's attire, their expressions would change, and they would quickly bow and greet him as Brother.

Each time, Xu Yang would nod slightly and continue leading Chen Xun and the others up the mountain.

When they reached the mid-mountain of the Servants' Peak, they didn't continue upwards. Instead, Xu Yang led them quickly forward. Along the way, they encountered more and more servant disciples, and Yu Zheng and the others, intimidated by the many watchful eyes, lowered their heads in fear.

Soon, they saw clusters of buildings, densely packed. Curious, Yu Zheng and the others asked about them and learned they were the residences of the servant disciples.

To their shock, Xu Yang informed them that servant disciples were also ranked.

The servant disciples living at mid-mountain were the lowest rank, mostly at the first level of Qi Refining or not yet having undergone Spirit Infusion, numbering around eight thousand.

The remaining two thousand or so lived higher up the Servants' Peak, and their cultivation levels were at the second level of Qi Refining, with a few at the third level.

Servant disciples at the third level of Qi Refining, if they advanced further, could leave the Servants' Peak and move to the Human Profound Peak, becoming outer sect disciples.
