Chapter 6 – The Art of Deception Unveiled

Seeing the new Fate Hint, Zhou Heng couldn't help but let a cold smile play on his lips.

No self-respecting man would choose Fate Hint One after seeing Fate Hint Two.

Rather than being a simp for Black Bear Ba, flattering him with nauseating compliments, Zhou Heng preferred to take his chances at the Black Bear Guild Resource Outpost. Since the Fate Hint mentioned he had half an hour to operate with his 1.2m/s movement speed, he was definitely going to the Black Bear Guild Outpost.

Zhou Heng didn't even need to ask where the Black Bear Guild's branch was located in Little Bird Town; he found it just by following the signs.

"Stop right there, brother!"

"The Resource Outpost is off-limits to non-internal members; you're just an outer member."

As soon as Zhou Heng reached the Black Bear Guild Resource Outpost, he was stopped by two guild members guarding the entrance.

Zhou Heng couldn't see their specific information, clearly indicating their high level.

But he wasn't worried. He pulled out a "Yellow Crane" from his backpack, a product developed by players after establishing themselves in the Infinite Expanse, priced at about 30 Copper Coins per pack.

"Brothers, care for a smoke?" Zhou Heng offered the cigarette with a slightly "simple" demeanor.

It can be hard to make great work when its stolen from "pawread dot com".

The two gatekeepers exchanged a glance, seeing the mockery and disdain in each other's eyes.

At their level, offering them such trash as Yellow Crane?

However, considering Zhou Heng had joined the Black Bear Guild at just level 1, he must have some background. After all, most new players in Little Bird Town were their underlings, with very few joining the guild. So, they decided to accept Zhou Heng's gesture and took the Yellow Crane cigarettes with a smile.

"Brother, is there something you need?"

"As long as it doesn't involve privacy or permissions, we're happy to help."

Zhou Heng was just trying his luck, but to his surprise, he managed to strike up a conversation. He immediately delivered the prepared story.

"Brothers, I found a hidden area outside Little Bird Town with a vast amount of Glowgrass, but my backpack only has 9 slots, each with a limit of 9. I was hoping to make some connections here to borrow a larger backpack."

Every new player starts with an initial backpack, but it's small, with only 9 slots and a limit of 9 items per slot, holding a maximum of 81 items.

The two gatekeepers exchanged a glance, their thoughts beginning to stir.

"Brother, how much Glowgrass are we talking about?"

"What kind of hidden area can someone at your level 1 access?"

The two guards asked quietly. Despite their apparent prestige in front of Zhou Heng, they were just bigger underlings. If there was a profit to be made, a little maneuvering wouldn't be a problem. After all, they were all part of the same guild; they couldn't possibly get scammed.

Zhou Heng smiled, finally putting the knowledge he learned from textbooks in this life to use.

"Brothers, it's a Spatial Rift, very safe and stable. I risked my life to check it out. The Glowgrass ranges from level 1 to level 10, some even over a meter tall."

Zhou Heng glanced around, looking cautious.

The two gatekeepers exchanged a glance, their eyes gleaming with greed.

Although Glowgrass is just a basic material for crafting "Minor Mana Recovery Potions" and is cheap, if there's a large quantity, it could still be very profitable.

"Really? Even over a meter tall?" The two guards' thoughts were racing.

Glowgrass over a meter tall is at least level 30 or higher.

Once harvested, this level of Glowgrass isn't cheap.

"Brothers, I'm just a level 1 player; how could I joke about something like this?"

"I could report it to the guild, but I know I can't handle that quantity alone. I just want to take what I can."

"Brothers, could you help a little brother out?"

Zhou Heng spoke cautiously, observing their expressions while handing each of them another Yellow Crane and gesturing a three with his fingers.

The two guards understood immediately and shook their heads.

"Too little. Take back the cigarettes and try ours."

They each handed Zhou Heng a "Soft Chunghwa," priced at 1 Silver Coin, which could permanently increase 1 point of attack, 10 points of health, and mana on the first try.

As they handed Zhou Heng the Soft Chunghwa, they gestured a seven in his palm.

Zhou Heng understood their meaning perfectly, feigning expressions of "pain," "reluctance," "hesitation," and "difficulty," before finally gritting his teeth.

"Alright, as you say, brothers."

"But I need a big backpack, the bigger, the better. Once I sell the first batch, the guild will know. There won't be any more profit then."

The two gatekeepers didn't rush to answer Zhou Heng but instead asked him to guard the gate for a while as they went aside to discuss privately.

"What do you think?"

"He got into the Black Bear Guild at level 1, he must be trustworthy. Besides, what can a level 1 do? I think we can do this deal, lend him the Brilliant Backpack from the resource vault, and we can make a good profit overnight."

"But that's a Brilliant quality backpack. If the guild leader finds out, we're screwed. It's risky."

"What risk? He's already in the guild, surely vetted by the guild leader. Otherwise, with our branch's lousy guild system, anyone could get in. Besides, Silver Coin drops have mysteriously decreased. If we don't take this chance, we'll miss out. As they say, fortune favors the bold. We can lend him the Brilliant Backpack, take 70% of the profits, and even if it's all level 1 Glowgrass, that's 99x99, at 10 Copper Coins each, how much is that? And that's just one trip; imagine a few more."

9801x10 is 98010, converted to Silver Coins is 98 Silver Coins, 70% is 68.6 Silver Coins. This profit is quite substantial for them.

"Alright, let's lend him the Brilliant Backpack, and after a few trips, we might even make Gold Coins."

Greed drove them to madness, and they decided to take the gamble.

Soon, they returned to the entrance and secretly handed the Brilliant Backpack to Zhou Heng.

"Brother, we're lending you this backpack temporarily, but you must return it to the resource vault later, understood?"

They spoke sternly, but their eyes were fixed on Zhou Heng, ready to seize him if he showed any greed and retrieve the Brilliant Backpack.

Zhou Heng suppressed his inner joy, showing a simple, honest smile.

"Don't worry, brothers. I wouldn't dare have any thoughts about such a high-level item; it's all about making money."

"Rest assured, brothers, that area is very safe. Just wait for me to harvest."

Seeing no unusual behavior from the young Zhou Heng, the two veteran players relaxed.

After all, how could a new player like him escape the fiery eyes of seasoned veterans like them?

But they couldn't possibly know that Zhou Heng was a transmigrator with two lifetimes of experience.

Not counting the youthful years of this life, hadn't he already experienced enough in the previous life's society?

Holding the Brilliant Backpack, Zhou Heng didn't even dare to check its attributes. With a mix of urgency and calm, he nodded repeatedly to the two gatekeepers as he slowly left their sight, step by step, until he was completely out of view.

"Haha~"

Once far from the Black Bear Guild Resource Outpost, Zhou Heng couldn't help but chuckle softly.

A Brilliant quality backpack, he was eager to see what level it truly was.
