Chapter 14 – Early Birds Catch the Worm: Su Bai's First Taste of the Third Division

7:50 AM!

Even though Su Bai's stamina was as high as 88, two hours of continuous training on an empty stomach left him feeling a bit tired.

His stomach growled.

Su Bai had no choice but to stop training.

Last night, he only had bread to eat. Although the system cleared the negative effects, the hunger couldn't be eliminated.

Seeing that there was still an hour before the team training, Su Bai quickly packed up his things and planned to head to the cafeteria to find something to eat.

Just as Su Bai left, other team members started arriving at the training ground one after another.

Ben Casey looked at the empty training ground and thought of his roommate.

He quickly picked up his phone, intending to call Su Bai to come to training early.

Their head coach hated lazy players the most.

His previous roommate didn't like training much and was eventually dismissed.

After the call connected, Su Bai assured him that he would be there soon.

And from the sound of it, he seemed to be eating something.

Looking at the time, Ben Casey frowned.

Having breakfast now, he might be late later.

Anyway, he made the call, so Ben Casey stopped worrying about Su Bai and began warming up on his own.

8:30 AM!

More than thirty players were already neatly lined up on the training ground.

Daniel strode into the training ground with Wycliffe.

Wycliffe started checking the roster.

Ben Casey looked around and sighed helplessly.

Sure enough, that guy still hadn't arrived.

Soon, Wycliffe realized that Su Bai was the only one missing from the team.

Wycliffe informed Daniel of the situation.

At that moment, Su Bai rushed into the training ground.

Seeing everyone looking at him, Su Bai felt a bit embarrassed.

It seemed the bread he left in his bag went bad overnight, and he ended up with a stomachache in the morning.

That's why he was late for the first training session.

- "Oh no, this guy's probably going to get scolded again. Damn, are we all going to have to run ten laps?"

- "Probably. Didn't he know to come earlier? No wonder Yan Country's football is so bad. This guy has some talent, but he's so lazy, he probably won't achieve much!"

- "Look at Mr. Daniel's expression. He's going to eat this guy alive. Please don't drag us into this!"

- "We're doomed. Punishment runs are inevitable. Damn Yan Country kid, it's all your fault!"

At this moment, even Ben Casey looked worriedly at Su Bai.

He had called him, so why was this guy still late?

"Hurry up and get in. Don't overwork yourself in the future! It's good for young people to be diligent, but don't wear yourself out!"

Daniel, who was usually like a lion in heat, surprisingly said this with a smile!

Everyone was stunned!

Even assistant coach Wycliffe widened his eyes at their head coach.

What was going on?

He was clearly late, yet he was told not to be too diligent?

Not only Wycliffe, but many players also looked at Su Bai with envy.

This guy was really favored. If it weren't for their different skin and hair color, they might have suspected Su Bai was Daniel's illegitimate child.

Su Bai returned to the group and joined the training team.

After all, it was just U18!

Daniel didn't talk about any advanced tactical analysis.

After warming up with the players, they continued with the scrimmage.

However, this time, Su Bai wasn't placed in Team A. Fortunately, Daniel put him in the center of Team B.

This time, Su Bai became the sole attacking midfielder for Team B.

.......

"I don't get it!"

Watching Su Bai frequently make mistakes on the field but also perform the La Croqueta, Daniel shook his head in confusion.

Not only Daniel.

Even Wycliffe beside him was a bit puzzled.

"This guy sometimes looks like a dribbling master, and other times like a school kid. Which one is he?"

As they spoke, Su Bai once again executed a beautiful La Croqueta in the crowd, followed by a cheeky lob pass.

But the Team B forward, that useless guy, was too slow. A perfect assist turned into a brilliant defensive clearance.

The Team B forward got up and awkwardly gave Su Bai a thumbs up.

Su Bai smiled back.

"Your passing is still as beautiful as ever!"

Ben Casey, who was marking Su Bai, saw that pass with his own eyes.

The placement and speed were perfect for a one-on-one chance.

But the Team B forward was too slow to react.

If it had been Whit Benedict, that ball would have definitely gone in.

"Boss, why not let this guy try in the weekend's match?"

Seeing Su Bai's brilliant performance, Wycliffe couldn't help but suggest.

"The first round of the 3rd Division, and you want to let this kid play?"

Even though he was tempted, Daniel still felt it was a bit too soon.

After all, this kid had only been with Schalke for less than two days.

There were less than three days until the weekend's match.

Five days!

You're letting a rookie who's never played a match stand on the 3rd Division field?

That's a bit too much.

Even though there aren't many spectators, at least the old folks from the neighborhood would come to watch.

Those guys would say anything.

He didn't even know how this kid's mental strength was. What if he wet his pants on the field?

At that moment, Daniel looked like a mother sending her child to kindergarten for the first time.

"Boss, I just meant letting him play a few minutes at the end to experience the 3rd Division atmosphere! It won't affect the team!"

"Besides, haven't you always wanted to transform the team? If we can play Tiki-Taka in the 3rd Division, maybe some 2nd Division or Bundesliga teams will notice you!"

Seeing Daniel's reluctance, Wycliffe added more fuel.

He knew his head coach's dream was to become a real head coach.

Even if it was a 2nd Division team, he wanted to lead a team of his own.

Not just sit at Schalke as a kindergarten teacher.

"Alright! Keep an eye on Su Bai these days, and you can give him a hint to prepare mentally!"

"And!"

"Tell him not to train so hard. We don't want his legs to be weak when we need him on the field!"

Wycliffe nodded.

Only then did he realize that he wasn't the only one who noticed Su Bai's intense training yesterday.

Their head coach had noticed too.

At this moment, Su Bai, still tangled with Team A's midfield on the training ground, had no idea that due to his diligence, he had already earned the chance to play in the first round of the 3rd Division match this weekend!
