At noon three days later, Jiang Hao got a call from the retired old lady. The out-of-town girl had returned to her rental room.
The moment he put down his phone, he hurried out of the Feng Family home.
Seeing Jiang Hao leave in such a rush, worry appeared on Feng Wanming’s face.
He took out his phone and called his driver, telling him to tail Jiang Hao and protect him in secret.
The driver had once been a special reconnaissance soldier and was highly skilled. After retiring from the military, he became Feng Wanming’s driver.
He was called a driver, but in truth he also served as a bodyguard.
...
Just as Jiang Hao stepped out past the villa compound’s security gate, a taxi pulled up beside him. The driver stuck his head out the window. “Buddy, where to?”
“Puyang Road.”
“Hop in.”
Jiang Hao opened the door and got in.
Only after getting in did he notice that besides the driver, there was also an ugly-looking man sitting in the front passenger seat.
“Buddy, sorry about this. Business in the taxi trade is bad these days, so I pick up extra passengers along the way. Hope you understand.”
Afraid Jiang Hao would be unhappy, the driver quickly explained.
Jiang Hao nodded and said nothing.
After the car had been driving for more than ten minutes, he gradually noticed that it had gone off route and was getting farther and farther from his destination.
As a killer, he had an instinctive imprint of every route he traveled.
“Driver, you took the wrong road, didn’t you? This is getting farther and farther from Puyang Road.” Jiang Hao’s face darkened.
“The place this gentleman is going really is far from Puyang Road, so we have to make a bit of a detour. But there are too many cabs and too few fares these days. I’m just trying to pick up one more customer. Hope you can understand.” As he explained, the driver kept complaining bitterly. “Competition in this line of work is fierce enough already, and we’re out early and back late every day without making much money. If anything goes slightly wrong, passengers file complaints.”

Jiang Hao kept a cold face and didn’t respond.
Even after leaving the city, the car continued speeding ahead with no sign of stopping.
“Where exactly are you taking me?” Jiang Hao asked with a grim expression.
As a killer, he had already sensed that something was off about the two men in the car. But since he was already here, he wanted to see exactly what they were up to.
“We’re taking this gentleman home,” the driver replied with a smile. “He does live in a pretty remote place.”
“The places we’re headed are in completely opposite directions. If you’re giving both of us a ride like this, wouldn’t you be losing money?” Jiang Hao questioned coldly.
“Buddy, don’t worry. I won’t lose money.” The driver seemed to be smiling, but there was something strange about that smile.
“Then who’s going to compensate me for the time I’ve wasted sitting in this car with you?” Jiang Hao said sharply. “Turn around and take me back.”
The driver smiled. “Buddy, don’t rush. We’re almost there.”
But that “almost there” stretched on for nearly another ten kilometers without the car stopping.
The driver had been prepared to keep feeding Jiang Hao excuses, but to his surprise, Jiang Hao stayed silent the whole way.
So he’s just some gullible idiot. One random line and he bought it. The driver sneered inwardly.
By then the taxi had gone far from the city and reached a hilly area outside town. Only then did the driver slowly say, “Kid, I’ll tell you the truth. Our boss wants to see you.”
Now that they were far from the city and there were few people around, even the way he addressed Jiang Hao changed.
“Who is your boss?” Jiang Hao asked coldly.
The driver had expected Jiang Hao to panic, make a scene, and demand to get out. His right hand had already moved to the dagger at his waist, ready to use it to threaten him.
Who would have thought the man would stay this calm?
“You’ll know when we get there. Stop asking so many questions.”
The ugly man in the front passenger seat suddenly spoke. He turned around and glared at Jiang Hao viciously, trying to intimidate him.
Jiang Hao remained silent.
Only then did a satisfied look appear on the ugly man’s face.
This idiot is so easy to scare. Sending both of us for this was a total waste of manpower. The same thought appeared in both men’s minds.
Jiang Hao’s silence didn’t mean he was afraid. He just wanted to see who the boss behind this was.
He had also wondered whether this had anything to do with the gang of kidnappers he had killed a few days ago, but he quickly ruled it out.
Those dead kidnappers had all spoken with out-of-town accents. They were drifters. These two, on the other hand, spoke in the local dialect. They were obviously not from the same bunch.
The car finally stopped in front of a three-story private house.
It was a detached residence. The nearest village house was almost a kilometer away.
But the scenery here was beautiful, backed by hills and facing water. It really was a fine place for leisure and retirement.
“Get out,” the driver said as he pulled open the rear door for Jiang Hao.
“Our boss is inside. Go in by yourself.” The driver grinned mockingly. “No need to be scared. As long as you behave, our boss won’t touch you.”
Jiang Hao ignored him and strode into the house.
After entering, he found three young men inside.
One was handsome and somewhat refined-looking. Dressed in designer sportswear, he sat on the sofa holding a glass of red wine.
Another was bald, with a dragon tattoo on his right arm. Wearing a black tank top and headphones, he sat on a stool beside him playing a competitive game on his phone, bursting into excited laughter from time to time.
The last was a heavily built man, thick with muscle and at least one meter ninety tall. He stood behind the refined-looking man, staring at Jiang Hao with sharp eyes.
“Who are you people? I don’t know you.” Jiang Hao’s face was as calm as still water, his voice flat and entirely free of panic.
Seeing that Jiang Hao showed no fear at all, the refined man looked slightly surprised.
“You don’t know us, but we know you. You’re Yiyun’s fiancé, the Feng Family’s future live-in son-in-law.” As Wan Zhiming spoke, he deliberately stressed the words “live-in son-in-law.”
Jiang Hao instantly understood. The refined man in sportswear before him had to be Feng Yiyun’s former fiancé, Wan Zhiming.
He had only just arrived in Wuling City. Aside from the kidnappers he had killed a few days ago, it was impossible for him to have any other enemies—except Wan Zhiming.
He had, after all, practically snatched the man’s fiancée right out from under him. It was only natural for the other man to hate him.
“I know who you are now.” Jiang Hao’s expression remained calm. “Go ahead. Why did you bring me here?”
Wan Zhiming didn’t answer. Instead, he looked Jiang Hao up and down, then sneered, “What part of you do you think is worthy of Yiyun? If Uncle Feng weren’t so stubborn about honoring some promise, a broke loser like you wouldn’t even be able to find a wife.”
“Losing to trash like you is the greatest humiliation of my life.”
Jiang Hao’s face darkened, but he didn’t explode. He simply asked again in an even voice, “Why exactly did you bring me here?”
Wan Zhiming took a light sip of wine from his glass and looked at Jiang Hao with contempt. “Obviously, I brought you here because I have business with you. It’s simple. Leave one finger behind, get out of the Feng Family, and crawl back to wherever you came from.”
