Outside several gates of Rising Dragon City, there were large shantytowns sprawling beneath the city walls, stretching far into the distance like wild weeds growing uncontrollably.

Most of the structures within these shantytowns were haphazardly constructed with bamboo, with wooden buildings being quite rare. The roads were simply paved with gravel, turning into muddy quagmires whenever it rained.

With no one to manage them, these areas were a chaotic mix of people and animals, with sewage flowing freely, filling the entire place with a foul stench.

Rising Dragon City had a registered population of over two million, but this number scarcely included the residents of the shantytowns, where only a small fraction held city registration.
