Chapter 9 – The Formless Ghost

"School Belle, can you come with me to check it out?"

"There are so many ghosts outside, I'm really scared~"

The Ghost School Belle tapped Su Ming's forehead with a strand of black hair, blocking his way no matter how hard he tried.

"School Belle."

The Ghost School Belle didn't want to talk. She simply lifted Su Ming and the Jumper Ghost with her hair and tossed them out the door.

With a bang, the door closed.

Su Ming rolled his eyes at the door, "Stubborn tsundere."

"Would it kill you to be a bit more proactive?"

"Eh."

He patted his head.

The Ghost School Belle was already dead.

This.

"Forget it."

He waved at the Jumper Ghost, "Come with me."

After Su Ming and the Jumper Ghost left, the Ghost School Belle slowly walked to the balcony, her pure black eyes staring into the deep night, lost in thought.

On the other side, Su Ming led the Jumper Ghost into Building 6.

Following the radar's location prompt, he cautiously entered the stairwell.

The Jumper Ghost walked ahead, with Su Ming following behind.

Through the radar scan, he got closer and closer to the red dot.

Upon entering the stairwell on the sixth floor, he overlapped with the red dot's position.

At the corner of the stairs between the sixth and seventh floors, there was a pile of dusty discarded cardboard and debris, seemingly left there for a long time.

It was certain that the red dot on the radar was this pile of junk.

"Xiaolou, go and take a look."

Following the command, the Jumper Ghost stiffly approached the debris and began moving the items one by one.

As the debris was gradually cleared, Su Ming discovered that the red dot referred to an old radio.

When he turned on the radio, it emitted only a harsh, static noise.

"Do you feel anything unusual?"

The Jumper Ghost stared at the radio, and after a long pause, finally spoke, "It... has... despair..."

"Despair?"

Su Ming frowned, not quite understanding what the Jumper Ghost meant.

So he changed the question, "Is it a ghost?"

The Jumper Ghost paused for several seconds before replying, "Don't... know..."

"Only... despair..."

As expected, even if this guy had intelligence, it wasn't very high.

Its explanation was difficult to comprehend.

"Useless, can't even speak clearly."

The Jumper Ghost wanted to try explaining again, but Su Ming raised his hand seriously, "Eh, no need to say more, I'll ask my School Belle."

"Bring the radio and follow me."

"And," he added, pointing at the Jumper Ghost, "don't drag out your words when speaking, it's really uncomfortable."

The Jumper Ghost spoke, spitting out each word slowly, with elongated tones that made it unpleasant to hear.

"Un...der...stood..."

Su Ming nodded in satisfaction.

Though the speech was still uncomfortable, it was trying to change.

He thought of letting it practice stand-up comedy later; the effect might be better.

Fortunately, it was early morning, and the neighborhood was quiet and empty.

Theft is never good, try looking at bit.ly/3iBfjkV.

Otherwise, Su Ming running around with a Jumper Ghost might scare someone to death.

As they walked, Su Ming curiously asked, "How did you find me?"

The Jumper Ghost pointed at Su Ming, speaking much more fluently than before, "Face, saw... saw it, then... knew."

"Impressive."

"So, if I give you a photo, you can accurately find the target."

"Wow, a human... no, a ghost GPS."

The Jumper Ghost didn't fully understand, but it sensed Su Ming's happiness.

When Su Ming was happy, it was happy too.

Patting the Jumper Ghost's shoulder, Su Ming continued to ask, "When you came, did anyone see you?"

The Jumper Ghost struggled to organize its words, then said with difficulty, "Once targeted, will... appear."

Su Ming frowned, deep in thought.

So it meant.

Once targeted by the Jumper Ghost, it would ignore distance, find the target, and then start claiming lives.

The only limitation should be time.

"Could it be a death countdown?"

"When the time is up, the ghost claims the life."

"The ghost's killing pattern?"

Su Ming understood.

However, these patterns were useless against the Ghost School Belle.

And now, they were useless against the Jumper Ghost too.

Because Su Ming could bypass the killing pattern and directly command the Jumper Ghost.

Thinking of this, Su Ming continued to ask, "Why did you target me?"

The Jumper Ghost's speech had improved significantly, and it replied, "It's... the medium."

"You... saw... death, saw... me."

Su Ming's eyes lit up, and he snapped his fingers.

Got it.

This time, the Jumper Ghost's explanation was relatively clear.

That online friend named Mint Candy.

In life, they were cursed, tormented, and wanted to transfer the curse to escape, but no one believed in ghosts.

Until they met him, using the death video as a medium, successfully transferring the curse.

Having figured this out, Su Ming became more curious about the Jumper Ghost's identity and couldn't help but ask.

"Were you one of the people burned to death at the Lychee Hotel?"

The Jumper Ghost shook its head.

"A construction worker?"

The Jumper Ghost shook its head again.

"A demolition crew worker?"

The Jumper Ghost still shook its head.

Then there was only one answer left.

"You were the adventure streamer who jumped from the Lychee Hotel."

As soon as he said this, the Jumper Ghost froze, memories flooding back, its expression dazed and confused.

Seeing this, Su Ming patted its back hard and laughed, "Don't worry, I'll take you to the Lychee Hotel for revenge someday."

[Loyalty (Jumper Ghost) +3, Current: 73]

Hearing the loyalty increase, Su Ming smiled with satisfaction.

Revenge wasn't urgent; after all, he hadn't specified a time.

Increasing loyalty was Su Ming's goal.

One person and one ghost returned home.

Su Ming had the Jumper Ghost set down the radio, then turned and called out to the Ghost School Belle, "School Belle, come take a look at this thing."

The Ghost School Belle glanced at it and said, "An unformed ghost."

"What do you mean by an unformed ghost?"

The Ghost School Belle explained, "Death Recording."

Actually, by this point, Su Ming already understood.

This radio contained the voice of someone in their final moments.

The voice carried the deceased's obsession and despair, and over time, it formed this anomaly.

"So, this thing is at most a cursed object right now, not yet a ghost."

"But over time, it could become a real ghost."

Su Ming finally understood the red dots on the radar.

Red dots represented anomalies.

But not all anomalies were ghosts.

Many red dots were cursed objects like this radio, ghostly embryos.

But thinking deeper.

It's truly terrifying.

Within just a 500-meter radius around him, there were 7 red dots.

If expanded to the entire city, the entire country, even the entire world, how many would there be?

Impossible to estimate.

Once all cursed objects like this radio awaken, the world would be in chaos.

"School Belle, in your judgment, how long before this radio becomes a ghost?"

The Ghost School Belle approached, touching the radio with her fingertips, pausing for a few seconds before seriously saying, "3 to 5 years."

After a pause, she added, "If you want it to become a ghost sooner, I can help you."

Su Ming shook his head, not for now.

What he was considering now was.

The hidden dangers of the world were more serious than he had imagined.
